Baby teeth are guides for the development and eruption of permanent teeth so the permanent teeth will grow into the right position. Also, cavities or infections in baby teeth can be transmitted to permanent teeth growing in the jaws.
A bottle of water is acceptable but any sweetened or naturally sweet beverage (juice, milk, etc.) will quickly contribute to tooth decay.
Find the tooth, picking it up by the white crown. If a permanent tooth, try to reinsert the tooth in its socket. If that is not feasible or if it’s a baby tooth, store the tooth in milk and rush the child (and the tooth) to our office.
Fluoride treatment hardens enamel, making it harder for cavities to get started. Sealants keep sweet foods and bacteria away from tooth surfaces, resulting in fewer cavities.
